Organized Play is a customer rewards program through which the Pokemon Company International (TPCI) gives back to the community who supports it through the purchase of their Trading Card Game (TCG) and Video Game (VG) products. It consists of Pokemon Leagues competing in tournaments culminating in the very prestigious annual invite only World Championship.
Leagues
There are leagues in most major cities in South Africa. Some cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg have more than one. Leagues are usually hosted in or near the retailers who sell the products. They meet once a week so that players can meet other like-minded people to hone their skills against and to prepare for the tournaments that take place throughout the year.
The Pokemon year is divided into 8 seasons. Each season lasts 6 weeks and ends with a League Challenge. Each season allows players to earn rewards in the form of special league only cards and badges. Players earn 1 Play Point (PP) for attending league sessions per season and 1 (per month) for taking part in tournaments.
Tournaments
Tournaments award Championship Points (CP) which allow you to There are 4 levels of tournaments to compete in:
- League Challenges: these are held every 6 weeks. Only 1 league per city can host these events. You can earn 1 PP and up to 16 CP.
- City Championships: these are held once a year at selected leagues. you can earn 2 PP and up to 50 CP
- Regional Championships: these are held in Cape Town, Johannesburg and East London once a year. You can earn 3 PP and up to 150 CP
- National Championship: held once a year . You can earn 10 PP and up to 500 CP.
PP/CP
PP are used to qualify for participation in National Championships. Masters require 10 PP while Juniors and Seniors require 5 PP. CP are used to receive an invitation to the World Championship. You need 500 CP in order to receive an invitation. to attend.
